Kurt Vonnegut 1922-2007

By Ortizzle

This has absolutely nothing to do with our course. I just felt the need to pay a tribute, however brief, to one of the greatest contemporary writers of our time. In my humble opinion, as the cliché goes.

I have thought about posting something ever since I heard the news of Kurt Vonnegut’s death a few days ago, but I was really at a loss for words. At a loss for such a loss…

This YouTube tribute is beautiful: So it goes.

Vonnegut was one of those writers whose books I could read more than once.

More than twice.

Here is one of the many, many things he said that made me think.  And made me laugh. And made me sad.  Depending on what stage of pretending I happened to be at in my life:

I would like to think that Mr. Vonnegut is still very much on this planet:  Slaughterhouse Five; Breakfast of Champions; Cat’s Cradle; God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater; Happy Birthday, Wanda June; Deadeye Dick; Bluebeard; Galápagos; Timequake…

And so it goes.
